Of schools say STEER has helped them understand their vulnerable students better

Deputy Head - Monkton Combe School

STEER has enabled us to identify at a really early stage those pupils who are at a hidden risk of developing social and emotional difficulties and how to help them.

We have been more proactive in flagging students who may have undiagnosed Autism and ADHD.

ND pathway lead - UK academy

Looking closely at STEER data alongside parent and teacher observations has given us a much deeper understanding of a student and their specific needs.

ND pathway

Many schools have seen a rise in the number of students showing symptoms of neurodiversity, in particular Autism and ADHD. More parents are seeking a neurodiversity diagnosis. STEER helps schools have better, kinder more effective conversations.

STEER’s pre-diagnostic data: STEER provides ND pathway leads with pre-diagnostic data which gives parents and teachers a much deeper understanding of a student and their specific needs. When making a referral schools use STEER data and commentary to inform supporting evidence.

Flagging undiagnosed ND needs: STEER data enables ND pathway leads to be more proactive in flagging students who may have undiagnosed Autism and ADHD.

Strengthening ND protective factors: Before accelerating a diagnosis referral we have used the STEER action planning toolkit to resource and upskill parents and teachers. This enables a student steer more effectively in their learning, relationship and mental health.

How we help

We help schools empower ND leads, support teachers and reassure parents to make the ND pathway better, kinder and more effective.

– ND leads feel more confident in identifying specific challenges and risks for an individual student, better informing the ND pathway before it leads to diagnosis.

– Teachers feel equipped with a practical toolkit, giving them new ideas to tailor support for students with possible Autism whilst they explore a clinical route. The interventions are simple to implement within the school day and do not add extra work

– Parents are reassured that their concerns are being listened to, and encouraged teachers are using personalised strategies to support their child in school. They benefit from STEER’s ideas they can use to support their child in the home.
