The prestigious award from BETT recognizes STEER’s market leading and innovative solution for safeguarding young people’s mental health.

LONDON – 28 July 2021 – Today at the annual BETT Awards STEER Education won the 2021 award in the major category of Best Leadership and Management Solution, ahead of a wide range of competing companies. A panel of judges that included senior educationalists, technologists and specialists made the determination following a comprehensive submission process and an extensive video presentation and interview.

OFSTED now requires schools to evidence their impact on pupils’ personal development. Schools typically rely on case studies to present such evidence, but this can be time consuming and subjective. Anticipating this need STEER developed and launched the capability to provide objective, reliable, efficient social-emotional pupil tracking data. STEER’s goal is to transform the measurement of educational quality from narrow academic attainment to whole-student development. Using pioneering science, STEER developed a highly accurate way of measuring a student’s social, emotional and mental health risks. This has helped schools using STEER to reduce self-harm by 20%. 8 /10 students supported by STEER reduce their mental health risks compared to 5/10 students who are not supported.

Now over 70,000 students are being safeguarded by STEER, including across 95% of AETs primary and secondary academies. During lockdown STEER provided unique guidance to teachers supporting many vulnerable students at home. STEER enables a school can fulfil OFSTED’s new requirements whilst putting students’ whole development at the centre of their educational impact.

Simon Walker, Co-Founder of STEER Education commented “The whole team here at STEER team is honoured and humbled to receive such a prestigious award for a solution which is changing the leadership of schools, and the life chances of children, all across the UK. We feel the award is a reflection of our work to improve the lives of tens of thousands of young people by our efforts so far, and as such we feel the award is for the schools we work with and everyone in them as much as being for our company”.
